What Awards Has The Aeron Chair Won
The Aeron chair is a very popular seat in today’s workplace. It is the most well-know ergonomic seat that has been made. It was the first that served as an alternate to the typical heavy, upholstery type office seating. It is considered a comfortable seat because of its available sizes and adjustments to specifically fit the user. Considered a beautiful piece of office furniture mainly due to its modern design.
The design is mesh material called pellicle that is very flexible and stretchy. It provides sacral and lumbar support. The armrests are easily adjustable to meet the needs of each person.
The credited designers are Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick. The challenge was for these two to develop a seat that would be the next generation office seating. The name of the it comes from the word aerate or aeration. This means air like with holes which describes the material that makes up the bulk of the seat.
It has won numerous awards including an award from the National Ergonomics Conference and Exposition. It has also been inducted in the Museum of Modern Art.
The medical benefits outweigh any of the other positives because with as many body aches and fatigue as office workers suffer from today, some relief had to be developed. Research shows that the spine should not be in a seated position for a continuous amount of time.
Lumbar support is rumored to help in these symptoms. The Aeron chair is designed with the lumbar area in mind. It has seemed to give relief to many workers in office settings. The main complaint about the seat is that is too low to the ground which may cause some problems in long term use in the back and legs.
